Virtual Assistant in the Philippines: 2026 Cost Guide (Sourced Rate Benchmarks)

Philippine VA salary benchmarks from Indeed PH, SalaryExpert, PayScale and the PSA, converted at a dated FX rate; buyer-side rates for marketplaces vs managed providers; an honest Philippines-vs-India comparison; 8 FAQs. Written by a provider that recruits in India, not the Philippines.

“How much does a virtual assistant in the Philippines cost?” has two answers, and conflating them is why most buyers budget wrong. One number is what a Filipino VA earns. The other is what you pay. They differ by two to four times, and the gap is not waste — it is recruitment, replacement cover, payroll compliance, equipment, and margin. This guide separates them, sources every figure, and shows where the published benchmarks disagree with each other rather than averaging the disagreement away.

Quick Answer

Through a managed provider, a full-time Filipino VA typically costs a US buyer $6.50–$15/hour, or roughly $700–$2,500/month all-in. On freelance marketplaces the range is wider and less predictable at $5–$15/hour for general admin work. The VA themselves usually earns the local-market equivalent of $350–$730/month. Zedtreeo does not staff from the Philippines — we recruit from India, from $5/hour — and this guide is written so you can compare the two honestly rather than take our word for it.

What Filipino Virtual Assistants Actually Earn

Start with the local labour market, because every buyer-side price is built on top of it. The Philippine Statistics Authority puts the national average monthly salary at approximately ₱21,544. Filipino professionals working remotely for foreign companies typically earn two to four times that figure, which is precisely why the offshore VA market exists at all.

The published VA-specific benchmarks:

Where these sources openly disagree

SalaryExpert models an hourly equivalent of ₱121.90. PayScale reports ₱35.00. That is a 3.5× gap for the same job title in the same country, and no honest guide should quietly average it into a single tidy number.

The divergence is explainable. PayScale’s figure rests on 219 self-reported profiles with a stated range from ₱3.91 to ₱408.51 per hour — a spread that wide, with a floor that low, indicates a sample mixing part-time gig work, trial rates, and full-time employment. SalaryExpert models full-time employed compensation. Indeed’s ₱26,864/month sits between them and, converted at ₱61.2630 to the US dollar (31 July 2026), works out to roughly $438/month, or about $2.74/hour across a 160-hour month.

Treat ₱20,000–₱45,000/month as the credible full-time band for general VA work, and treat any single quoted “average” — including ours — as a midpoint of a wide distribution rather than a precise figure.

USD conversions use the 31 July 2026 rate of ₱61.2630 = $1. The peso moved across 2026, so a figure converted six months ago will not match one converted today — check the date on any USD figure you are handed, including these.

What US Buyers Actually Pay

Now the number that belongs in your budget. There are three routes to a Filipino VA, and they price very differently.

Freelance marketplaces

Offshore freelancers from the Philippines commonly charge $5–$15/hour for general administrative work, with technical and specialist profiles reaching $25–$35. The platform fee is the part buyers routinely forget: on a $7/hour engagement the buyer pays roughly $7.35/hour after the client-side fee, while the freelancer nets about $5.60 after the platform’s cut. Roughly a quarter of the money moves to neither of you.

Marketplaces suit short, bounded projects. They are weakest exactly where ongoing VA work is hardest — continuity. There is no bench, so an illness, a better-paying client, or a visa change is your problem to solve from scratch.

Managed providers

Through an established provider, expect $6.50–$15/hour for a pre-vetted, English-fluent professional, or $700–$2,500/month all-in for full-time. The most common band for mid-level general admin is $4.50–$7.50/hour; entry-level general work starts around $3/hour and advanced technical specialists reach $35.

The premium over the local salary covers sourcing and screening, payroll and statutory compliance, equipment and connectivity, supervision, and — the one that actually matters over a two-year horizon — replacement cover when someone leaves.

Direct employment

Hiring a Filipino employee directly is cheapest per hour on paper and the most expensive in practice unless you already have an entity or an employer-of-record arrangement. You take on Philippine employment law, 13th-month pay, SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG contributions, and local termination rules. For a single VA this is rarely worth it. At fifteen or more people it starts to be.

The comparison buyers get wrong

Do not compare a Filipino VA’s salary to a US assistant’s salary. Compare what you pay to what you pay. Per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, the median annual wage for secretaries and administrative assistants was $47,460 in May 2024 — before employer taxes, benefits, equipment, and space, which conventionally add 25–35%.

Six Factors That Move the Final Rate

1. Timezone commitment. The Philippines is UTC+8. Full US Eastern business-hours coverage means a night shift, and a night-shift differential is standard and legitimate. Expect 15–30% on top for hard overnight commitments.

2. Specialisation. General admin sits at the bottom of the range. Bookkeeping, paid-media management, technical support, and executive assistance each move it up materially.

3. Voice versus non-voice. Customer-facing phone work carries a premium over back-office work. This is where the Philippines is genuinely strong — more on that below.

4. Tenure and continuity. Annual contracts price below month-to-month. Providers price stability because they carry the replacement risk.

5. Compliance requirements. HIPAA-aware handling, PCI scope, or signed DPAs shift you into a different provider tier with a different cost base.

6. Exchange rate. Peso-denominated salaries with dollar-denominated invoices means FX moves someone’s margin. Ask which side carries it before you sign.

Philippines vs India: An Honest Comparison

We recruit from India, so read this section knowing exactly where our interest lies — and then check it against the sources rather than taking it on trust. Both markets are mature. They are good at different things.

PhilippinesIndia
Typical managed rate$6.50–$15/hour$5–$10/hour
US Eastern overlap0–2 hours (night shift for full cover)4–6 hours
Strongest atVoice, customer-facing support, US-shift coverageBack-office, technical, AI-tool-heavy operations
Accent neutralityWidely regarded as the stronger marketVaries more by region and training
Talent pool depthDeep in BPO and supportLarger overall; deeper technical bench
UK/EU overlapLimitedFull shift overlap

If your requirement is inbound phone support for US customers during US daytime hours, the Filipino BPO industry was built for precisely that and has been refining it for over two decades. We would not claim otherwise, and if that is the job, hire there.

If your requirement is back-office operations, bookkeeping support, CRM and reporting work, or a role that leans on AI tooling, India generally offers a deeper bench at a lower rate with more usable working-hours overlap for both US and UK teams. That is the work we staff.

Four Budget Scenarios

Solo founder, 20 hours/week, general admin. Part-time Filipino VA via marketplace at $6/hour ≈ $520/month, plus platform fees. Continuity risk sits with you.

Small agency, one full-time VA, US-daytime coverage. Managed provider at $8/hour with a night-shift commitment ≈ $1,280/month. Compare against a US part-time assistant at roughly $22/hour loaded for the same 20 productive hours.

Growing SMB, three VAs, mixed shifts. $7–$9/hour band ≈ $3,400–$4,400/month all-in. At this size, supervision becomes the binding constraint, not rate.

Established firm, ten-plus seats. Direct employment or EOR starts to compete on cost, but only if you can carry Philippine payroll compliance and local HR. Model both.

Five Ways to Reduce the Cost Honestly

Match the shift to the work. Not every role needs US hours. Paying a night differential for a task that could run overnight in batch is money spent on nothing.

Hire for the actual scope. A specialised VA doing general admin is an expensive mismatch, and they will leave.

Commit to a term. Annual pricing beats month-to-month almost everywhere, because it beats it for the provider too.

Consolidate part-time roles. Two half-time VAs cost more than one full-time and coordinate worse.

Compare against the loaded US cost, not the salary. Most savings estimates understate the gap by ignoring employer taxes, benefits, equipment, and space.

Compliance and Contracting

Whichever market you choose, three things belong in the contract before work starts: who the legal employer is and under whose law the agreement sits; what happens to your data, where it is processed, and who is accountable if it leaks; and what the replacement obligation is when someone leaves.

The Philippines has the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and an active National Privacy Commission. India has the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Neither is a substitute for a signed DPA that names your provider’s actual contracting entity. If a provider cannot tell you which legal entity signs, that is your answer.

Zedtreeo contracts through LegelpTech Outsourcing Private Limited, an ISO 27001:2022 certified company. Our legal and compliance page names the entity, the certification, and the governing law without requiring a call first.

Where Zedtreeo Fits

We do not staff from the Philippines. We recruit in India and place dedicated, full-time remote staff with businesses globally, starting from $5/hour — roughly $800/month at 160 hours. If Filipino voice support is what your business needs, this guide should help you buy it well from someone else.

If the work is operations, bookkeeping, admin, or research — and especially if you want four to six hours of daily overlap with a US team rather than a night shift — that is what we do. You can check our published rates against your own numbers in the Rate Index, which lists every role beside the US occupational benchmark, or model your own scenario in the cost calculator.

How to Read a Philippine VA Quote

Quotes in this market are quoted differently by different sellers, which makes like-for-like comparison harder than it should be. Four questions resolve most of it.

Is the rate all-in or a base? Some providers quote a headline hourly rate and bill equipment, internet allowance, and statutory contributions separately. Others fold everything in. A $6.50 base plus extras can land above a $9 all-in. Ask for the monthly invoice total for one full-time seat, not the hourly rate.

How many productive hours are you buying? A 160-hour month is the standard assumption in this guide, but Philippine labour law provides for regular holidays and 13th-month pay. If the quote assumes 174 hours and the contract delivers 152, the effective rate is a fifth higher than advertised.

Who carries replacement? This is the question that separates a staffing partner from a referral service. If your VA leaves in month four, does the provider supply a vetted replacement at no additional recruitment fee, and how long do they have to do it? Get the number of days in writing. Recruitment and retraining is the single largest unbudgeted cost in offshore staffing, and a provider unwilling to commit to a replacement window is telling you they expect you to absorb it.

What is the notice period, both ways? Month-to-month flexibility is worth paying for if you genuinely need it, and worth nothing if you do not. Annual terms price lower precisely because the provider can plan against them.

A provider who answers all four in writing before a call is easier to compare than one who requires a discovery meeting to quote — and the willingness to publish is itself a signal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a virtual assistant in the Philippines cost per hour?

Through a managed provider, expect $6.50 to $15 per hour for a pre-vetted, English-fluent VA. On freelance marketplaces, $5 to $15 per hour is typical for general admin work, before platform fees of roughly 20%. Entry-level general work starts near $3 per hour and technical specialists reach $35.

What does a Filipino virtual assistant actually earn?

Local full-time VA salaries generally run ₱20,000 to ₱45,000 per month, roughly $326 to $735 at the 31 July 2026 rate of ₱61.2630 to the dollar. Indeed Philippines reports an average of ₱26,864 per month as of May 2026. The Philippine Statistics Authority puts the national average across all occupations at about ₱21,544 per month.

Why do published Philippine VA salary figures disagree so much?

Because they measure different populations. PayScale reports ₱35.00 per hour from 219 self-reported profiles spanning ₱3.91 to ₱408.51, a sample mixing gig and full-time work. SalaryExpert models full-time employed compensation and arrives at ₱121.90 per hour. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions. Treat any single average as the midpoint of a wide distribution.

Is a Filipino VA cheaper than an Indian VA?

Generally no. Typical managed rates run $6.50 to $15 per hour for the Philippines against $5 to $10 for India. The Philippines commands a premium for native-accent voice work and US-shift coverage, which is a real capability rather than a pricing quirk. For back-office and technical work, India is usually both cheaper and deeper.

What is the timezone difference between the Philippines and US Eastern time?

The Philippines is UTC+8, giving zero to two hours of natural overlap with US Eastern business hours. Full US-daytime coverage requires a night shift, which normally carries a 15 to 30 percent differential. India at UTC+5:30 offers four to six hours of natural overlap without one.

Should I hire through a marketplace or a managed provider?

Marketplaces suit short, bounded projects where you can absorb turnover. Managed providers cost more per hour and carry sourcing, payroll compliance, equipment, supervision, and replacement cover. For an ongoing full-time role, the continuity is usually worth the premium; for a two-week project, it is not.

What hidden costs should I budget for?

Platform fees of roughly 20% on marketplaces, night-shift differentials for US-hours coverage, equipment and connectivity allowances, and the cost of re-hiring and retraining when someone leaves. That last one is the largest and the least often modelled.

Does Zedtreeo place virtual assistants from the Philippines?

No. We recruit in India and place dedicated remote staff with businesses globally from $5 per hour. This guide exists because buyers comparing the two markets deserve sourced figures for both, including where the Philippines is the better choice.

Sources

Methodology. Local salary figures are taken directly from the four published sources named above, on the dates shown, without adjustment. USD equivalents use a single exchange rate (₱61.2630 = $1, 31 July 2026) applied consistently; they will drift as the peso moves. Buyer-side rate bands are market ranges rather than Zedtreeo quotes, and are stated as ranges because the underlying sources disagree. Where sources conflict — most sharply between PayScale and SalaryExpert — both figures are shown and the conflict is explained rather than averaged. Zedtreeo’s own $5/hour anchor is a published brand-level starting rate for India-sourced staff, not a Philippines rate; we do not recruit in the Philippines.
